Turning Rackless into Relentless: The great success of the Ranger Wilds Tail Racks series

Some upgrades are cosmetic. Others quietly change how you travel. The new Ranger Wilds tail racks fall firmly into the second category.

Built from high‑grade aluminum and engineered specifically around the Ranger Wilds luggage family, they take a rackless system that already works extremely well, and give it a professional, purpose-built backbone that most riders don’t realize they’re missing until they try it.

If you’ve ever wished for cleaner mounting, better weight distribution and real protection for your bike’s tail without ruining its lines, this is the development you’ll want to know about.

Purpose-Built Support for Ranger Wilds

The Ranger Wilds racks were designed in-house at Westwind as a natural extension of our Ranger Wilds soft luggage. Instead of another universal rear rack, we focused on a platform that truly complements how our system sits on the bike.

Each model is engineered around the OEM mounting points of a specific motorcycle, which means no drilling, no DIY brackets and no guesswork: just a clean, bolt-on installation that uses the bike’s original hardware architecture as it was meant to be used.

Today the range already covers several popular adventure and dual-sport models, and more are on the way. We see this as a long-term project: a growing family of racks that give more and more riders a seamless match to their luggage.

Light, Strong and Visually “At Home” on the Bike

Construction is based on 3 mm high-grade aluminum, paired with stainless steel hardware to keep things light yet reassuringly solid. The shapes are carefully drawn to follow the lines of each bike’s tail section so that the rack looks like it belongs there from the factory.

The design language is deliberately minimalist: no unnecessary tubes or bulky frames, just a slim, functional surface with well-placed slots and anchor points. On many bikes, riders tell us the rack not only avoids spoiling the original design; It actually sharpens it, adding a purposeful, adventure-ready look even when no luggage is mounted.

The Ideal Partner for Ranger Wilds Luggage

While the racks work with many types of soft luggage, they really come into their own when combined with the Ranger Wilds Enduro 40 and 80 and the rest of the RW range. They offer a number of practical advantages:

  • Provide a natural support for the side bags, helping them sit in a stable, repeatable position on the bike.

  • Create a barrier between the luggage and the bodywork, reducing rubbing and paint wear and helping extend the life of both the bike and the rackless system.

  • Improve load distribution, spreading weight over a wider area rather than concentrating all forces on the RW base alone.

  • Help keep the exhaust-side bag at a safe distance from the muffler, reducing heat exposure and movement.

  • Offer multiple solid anchor points for rear-facing straps, making it easier to secure heavy setups with confidence.

  • Add a subtle level of protection for the tail section, acting as a sacrificial layer against scuffs from bags and cargo.

For larger capacities like the RW40 and RW80, many riders now consider the rack and luggage almost a single, integrated system rather than two separate products.

Versatility for Lighter Setups

The racks also open interesting options for minimalist packing. Smaller RW bags such as the RW3 and RW6 can be mounted directly to the rack using the slot pattern, without the RW base, for ultra-light trail or enduro days.

Used this way, it’s important to stay conservative with weight and take care to route and tension the straps correctly to avoid unnecessary movement or abrasion. But when done properly, it creates a clean, compact setup that still carries the essentials while keeping the bike agile and uncluttered.

Leading the Way, Quietly

One of the reasons the Ranger Wilds racks have been so well received is that there are very few (if any) alternatives offering this combination of:

  • bike-specific fit to OEM mounting points

  • refined design and finish

  • low weight and high strength

  • and a price point that remains accessible

Riders notice when a solution solves a real problem without overcomplicating things, and the feedback we’ve received from hundreds of customers worldwide suggests we’re on the right track.

For us, these racks are another expression of Westwind’s philosophy: simple, effective tools that riders genuinely need, developed by listening carefully to the community and by watching how bikes and luggage get used in the real world.

What Comes Next

In the last months we’ve already released a few new rack models, and the current Ranger Wilds rack lineup can be seen here: https://www.westwindmoto.com/collections/westwind-moto-range-wilds-luggage-rack.

Development is ongoing for several more applications. The next releases on our schedule are an upgraded kit for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 and a brand-new rack for the VOGE DS800X, with additional models already in the pipeline.

We want to thank all the riders who have shared feedback, photos and ideas; Your input plays a real role in shaping what we build next. Keep an eye on our website and social channels: new Ranger Wilds racks are on the way, and your bike might be the next one to get the Westwind tailor‑made treatment.
